THE CONNECTION CATALYST CHALLENGE

Turn Costly Disconnection
into Better Results.

The disconnections costing you money, trust, and relationships are already happening. What you may not see are the misreads driving them.

Catch the gap before it becomes a verdict.

When disconnection starts costing you

  • Your strongest people are no longer working well together.

  • People see problems, but no longer feel safe enough to say what they see.

  • A misunderstanding has become mistrust, and now every interaction is filtered through it.

  • Differences in culture, experience, or working style are becoming friction instead of strength.

  • Managers are avoiding difficult conversations or stepping in only after tensions have escalated.

  • The work is slowing down because the relationships carrying the work are breaking down.

A Connection Catalyst Challenge event

Here We Go Again

How to stop the pattern before it costs you the relationship.

The details change. The pattern doesn’t.

Before anyone explains what happened, you already know how the story ends. You assume intent, they feel misunderstood, and a small disconnect becomes conflict, withdrawal, or lost momentum.

The five-part Connection Catalyst system helps you recognize disconnection early, check the meaning you’ve assigned to it, navigate differences, and repair trust before the pattern takes over.

Catch the misread before it becomes a verdict. Protect the relationships and results that matter most.

Interrupt conflict. Change the pattern.

Dr. Ruth Akumbu

Introduces Ancestral Blueprints™, a framework for identifying the inherited beliefs, experiences, and interpretations that shape your reactions before they show up in your relationships.

Stanley Lewis - Guest Speaker

The founder of Nward Journey explores how conditioned responses take over under pressure—fighting, withdrawing, blaming, or shutting down—and how to develop more intentional ways to respond.

Together, they connect understanding your interpretations with changing how you respond and repair trust. You’ll leave with a clearer way to identify misreads, interrupt reactive patterns, and navigate differences in professional and personal relationships.

Disconnection is the hidden cost. And most people never learn how to stop it.

Disconnection begins when meaning is misread. It becomes costly when that misreading shapes what people believe, how they relate, and what they do, weakening trust, slowing the work, and costing relationships, time, and money.

The Connection Catalyst Challenge helps you catch disconnection early, check meaning before assumptions become judgments, navigate differences more effectively, and change the patterns affecting how people work together.

If how people work together affects the results you are responsible for, this Challenge was built for you.

HOW IT HAPPENS

Same moment. Different meanings.

Culture, experience, and expectation run like an invisible operating system, shaping how people read the same words, silences, and instructions.

Silence in a meeting

Someone stays quiet for 30 seconds after you share an idea.

  • Deep respect, processing before speaking

  • Disagreement, too polite to say so

  • The best idea in the room, still unspoken

Everyone in that silence was doing something reasonable. Reasonable just looked different in each of them.

"Urgent" in an email

A manager emails her cross-continental team: "Urgent: status update by end of day."

  • U.S. colleague: 5 PM today

  • Nairobi colleague: when the work is properly complete

  • One frustrated manager, and no one knew why

Everyone took the request seriously. The proof of seriousness just looked different.

You can't name what you can't see.

And most of what disconnection costs, you never see.

Leaders call it a performance problem, and HR calls it a culture problem or personality clash. But when the real problem is misdiagnosed, they apply the wrong solution. Therefore, nothing truly shifts.

An executive notices that a newly hired director rarely speaks in meetings unless called on and concludes that he lacks initiative.

But the director comes from an environment where entering the conversation without an invitation is considered disrespectful, and no one pauses long enough for him to contribute.

His silence becomes frustration, his frustration is treated as a performance problem, and eventually he leaves.

Everyone concludes that he was not a good fit. The company spends months and thousands of dollars replacing a highly skilled director, but never addresses the meeting culture that made his contribution invisible.

THE FIX

Most of this is fixable. Not by hiring "better people," but by catching the misread while it is still small.

You can finally name what has been happening, instead of sensing it and having no words for it.

You stop replaying conversations for hours.

You catch assumptions before they become judgments about the person.

People can say what they see without every disagreement becoming a threat.

Tension gets addressed instead of avoided, before it becomes mistrust or a pattern.

People stop spending their energy surviving the workplace and start thriving in the work itself.

"When certainty replaces curiosity, explanation becomes harder to hear."

What You Take Into the Next Moment

You know the moment: a conversation goes sideways, a message lands wrong, or what you intended is not what someone else understood. The moment passes, but the misread does not. People grow more careful, speak less freely, and find it harder to relate and work together.

Recognize disconnection earlier

Notice the warning signs before trust weakens, people withdraw, or opportunities disappear, the same disconnection that costs large organizations an average of $62M a year.

Understand what is really happening

Separate what happened from the assumptions and meanings people attach to it.

Read documents the way your people read them

Policies, handbooks, and job descriptions are interpreted daily. Catch the gap between what was written and what others understood before it becomes practice.

Respond with greater clarity and confidence

Stop reacting automatically and recover time lost to confusion and rework, up to 7.47 hours per person every week.

Protect trust, relationships, and opportunities

Address misunderstandings before they cost you a client, team member, partnership, or important relationship.

Repair missteps faster

Know what to say and do when something lands badly, tension develops, or trust has already been damaged.

Deliver without burning out your team

Clear the misread so the work can move without grinding down the people doing it.

Dr. Ruth Akumbu · PhD

Dr. Ruth Akumbu learned this the hard way. Working with missionaries in Cameroon, then living in Minnesota, then California, then in entertainment, she kept hearing herself say the same four words: that's not what I meant. She began to notice how rooms shifted around assumptions nobody had checked, so she started checking. That habit became the work. She is a researcher, educator, and global leadership coach who has spent more than 25 years working across cultures in Cameroon, Kenya, and the United States with short stays in other 20 countries. She teaches intercultural leadership and business courses at Concordia University Irvine, Bushnell University, Loyola Marymount University and her research on how culture shapes collaboration has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Most workplace friction, especially across cultures, is not caused by character failures, but by interpretation failures. Therefore, you cannot repair the problem until you diagnose it correctly.

"Most people don't need more shame around difference. They need practical tools for interpreting what's happening, repairing what went wrong, and building stronger relationships."

Who this is for

If differences show up in your world,

this challenge was built for you.

Leaders, professionals, educators, coaches, community builders, ministry leaders, entrepreneurs. Anyone who works, lives, or leads alongside people who see the world differently. Culture, race, class, generation, personality, faith, communication style. All of it shapes how we connect.

What participants say

The shift people Describe.

Before

"Before today, I thought some topics were politically inappropriate and uncomfortable to raise, for both speakers and listeners, and were best left undiscussed."

After

"What shifted for me was hearing firsthand experience and firsthand research. Because of this, I will aim to be braver in giving voice to uncomfortable topics, in the room, the family, the community."

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost, and what if it doesn't work for me?

General Admission is $17. VIP Admission is $97 and includes the workbook. The downloadable workbook may be purchased separately for $27 by General Admission attendees.

If you do the work and it does not help you, VIP is refundable. To qualify, you must attend all live sessions with your camera on, complete every workbook exercise and provide proof, and participate actively by asking questions and engaging with the speakers.

If you meet those requirements and are still not satisfied by the end of the challenge, email your attendance and completed workbook to info@ruthakumbu.com. Once your eligibility is verified, your $97 payment will be refunded.

What is the difference between General and VIP?

General includes the live sessions and core teaching. VIP adds the workbook, 24-hour access to each session recording, daily group Q&A, and guided implementation tools.

What if my situation is really a performance issue?

Some friction really is. The challenge does not pretend otherwise. What it gives you is a way to tell the difference before you act, so you are not managing out someone who was never the problem.

Will this work if nobody else on my team is doing it?

Yes. Everything you learn works from where you sit. You are changing how you read situations and how you respond, which does not require anyone's permission. Several past participants came on their own.

Is this a diversity training?

Not exactly. Most training in this space is built on awareness, on the idea that if people understand difference better, they will treat each other better. My work starts somewhere else. Difference is not the problem. Interpretation is. Two people read the same moment, reach different conclusions, and act on them, neither realizing the other saw something else. You can act on what you think happened, or learn to catch the misread before it becomes a verdict.

What is in the workbook, and how do I get it?

The complete workbook includes guided exercises, scripts, and a self-guided Trust Repair Plan worksheet. It is included with VIP Admission, or available separately for $27. It is a downloadable, print-ready PDF, so participants print their own copy.

Will sessions be recorded?

Yes. VIP participants receive access to each session recording for 24 hours from the time it is posted. General Admission does not include session replays or the workbook.

Ready?

Stop losing because of what you can't see on a report.

Most trust breaks across cultural lines are not character failures. They are interpretation failures. You cannot repair what you are diagnosing incorrectly. This challenge gives you the diagnosis and the tools to fix it.
